Hey guys, got a bit of problem with my computer, after installing a new 470Gtx ive been having random restarts. it does'nt occur during games and happens when on the desktop.

Its only happened since I swapped out a 4850 for a gtx 470

Build is

i5 750 @ 4Ghz now down to stock to see if it makes a diff
4GB OCZ
Biostar T5-XE CF-SLI
650W silverstone PSU

My assumption about random restarts was indadquate power draw. So im looking at the PSU as a suspect. 470 is a power hog so maybe an upgrade to a 750watt might help. gonna try some prolonged use at stock cpu to see if that makes a differance.

Cheers for any input

would have thought its more likely to occur when gaming if its a power issue as its likely to draw more power when being used heavily, rather than sitting on desktop

650w should be enough for a 470, how old is the psu ?

have you done a clean/new install of the latest video drivers for the card ?

does memtest show the memory is ok ?

GeForce GTX 470 > On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit. We recommend at least 35 Amps in total available on the +12 volts rails (accumulated).

Model No. SST-ST65ZF 650watt Spec > +12v rails:single -54A
PCI-E 8pin*1>GTX480*1 >HD5970*1
PCI-E 6pin*2>GTX295*1 >HD5770*2

Should have no trouble running a 470, check your cable's are all the way home, have you a spare one to try. Check your mobo manual, have you the right number of cable's plugged in your mobo as the 470 draws about 354watt at full load compared to 4850 about 203watt.

It does sund like the PSU, but like others say, it should be more than sufficient. It could also be a duff GPU.
