What are people’s opinions on the nicest Switches and Sockets that aren’t stupidly expensive?

I’m wanting white sockets and had toyed with the idea of MK Edge as my office has the brushed stainless versions and they are very nice... but at those prices it’s just not going to happen.

Taking that look as the starting point (flat front plates, rounded edges, screw covers, etc) what are my options? Shamefully, I only know MK as one of the better brands, so I’d be interested to hear what’s what.

Er... yes?

I don’t care what material they are made from, as long as they are white and look like I’m wanting them to. I’m not paying someone almost £150 for a two-gang dimmer switch, no matter what!

I always use Click / Click Deco. They are a dream to wire up due to their large terminals and well positioned screws and tend to be cheaper than most. I've usually found alert electrical to be the cheapest.

I will be upgrading most of our new house to these sockets when moving in.

For clarity, this is what MK Edge looks like:

So that's the look I'm after; something like MK Logic won't work for me as it has a bevelled top edge.

I am a huge fan of the MK stuff, but the usb plug/socket combo needed a deeper back box and I really did not want to start chiselling.
In the end, I went for the BG range in brushed nickel in the kitchen, and the white stuff with rounded corners elsewhere, as they come with screw covers, and the price was right. 3amp Usb sockets in key locations around the house has been a big help.
Not sure there are too many flat plate options in white.

Got all my stuff from www.electricalcounter.co.uk.

I'm surprised that the USB sockets are so popular. I mean, can you honestly say USB Type-A it'd still be around/required in 5-10 years? How often do you change sockets?

then for 5-10 years its surely worth it.
better than having big ugly plugs in the socket, plus frees the socket up too for other appliances.

I have looked at USB sockets when replacing sockets but I can't justify the price hike, considering that I can buy a double/triple/quad charger if needed and plug that in.
Perhaps in our bedroom next to me bed it *could* be handy if I reasoned with myself enough ;)

I'm looking to replace most/all of the light switches and electrical sockets in my house, as they're pretty old and some of the light switches have a less than 'positive' switching feeling, which plays to my OCD tendencies...

Which brand is the best for the money? I see the usual: MK, LAP, Crabtree etc. but everyone seems to have a different opinion.

I prefer the quality feel of the crabtree. Has a really satisfying click action. LAP and MK feel horrible in comparison. Go into B&Q and have a play with them.

I have used hundreds of chrome/brass LAP items and have noticed the reliability to be below the established brands. I have had several failed dimmers and socket switches.

The price is amazing though, which is why i continue to use them and put up with a few potentially not lasting.
