Hi, my current BB provider is Tesco. I'm currently paying £17.97 for a 2.2mb connection. I am thinking of switching to 02 (premium) as I am a current 02 mobile customer so can get upto 20meg BB for £9.79 p/mth. So with that in mind just a couple of questions.

1) I use a Netgear DG834G wireless router (latest firmware), If I switch do I need to change any setting's on the Router.

2) Is it better to use the router 02 would provide, or is the Netgear router fine to use.

3) What do you guys think of O2 as an ISP. They seem to have pretty good reviews.

Thanks guys.

If you're synced at 2.2mb on an up-to 8mb service that suggests your line stats aren't that hot, in which case switching to an ADSL2+ service like O2 premium may not offer much apart from a cost saving. Find your line stats and plug them into something like this to get an idea of what kind of speeds to expect.

If you do switch to O2 premium you'll need to reconfigure your DG834G to work with the new service, whether that's worth doing depends in part on the version number. v4's have a Broadcomm chipset, which should provide better sync speeds than earlier versions with Texas Instruments chipsets - Be/O2 DSLAM's use Broadcomm chipsets (along with the O2 box).

Whichever way when you're switched over you should probably use the O2 box initially, as it'll come pre-configured and is supported by O2, which could be important if you have any teething problems with the service.

As to whether O2's LLU services are any good, well my 8 months or so with them have been decent. But lots of people have suffered with poor download speeds and high latency, as a result of a lack of capacity in some areas and an increase in customer numbers. But Be/O2 have been touting network upgrades, and it's been a month or two since I've seen any moans specifically about their LLU services, so I'd hazard a guess that they've gotten over the problems.

Hi. I can recommend O2 however your speed will depend on whether your exchange is LLU enabled, line length and line noise. If you decide to go with O2, sign up to Quidco as they are offering 3 months free and £70 cashback if you join O2 Pro or Premium through thier site.
You will need to enter different settings on your router, these are available on the O2 forums.
I would recommend using the supplied router initially as support is only available for this however I have found they try to assist when they can whatever the router.
I moved from Demon and have been very impressed with both performance and support.
Regards

Thanks for the info so far. Just checked the exchange info and apparentley the line is LLU is enabled. The Exchange is at the top of my street.
