Switching between graphics card output issues

I'm running a ATI HD 5770 Vapor-X on 64-bit Windows 7. My monitor is a Samsung T260HD

The HD 5770 has three outputs: HDMI, DVI and VGA.

I originally had the monitor on my desk connected via HDMI and had a VGA lead running from the graphics card to another part of the room so I could unplug the HDMI lead and move the monitor from the desk to by my bed, plug in the VGA lead and watch movies in bed.

Everything worked fine by using the source control utility on the monitor to switch between HDMI and VGA input sources.

I then decided to ditch the VGA lead and use DVI instead. Now when I unplug the HDMI lead and plug in the DVI or vice versa, even though the source list on the monitor shows either the DVI or HDMI available (depending on which one is plugged in at the time), when I select it the monitor display remains black with a no signal.

This means that everytime I move the monitor from desk to bed or back again I have to restart the PC with the lead plugged into the monitor that I wish to use.

Does anyone know what's causing this and if there are any fixes?

Thanks

It may have something to do with switching between two digital outputs, whereas before you were switching between an Analogue and a Digital output.

Isn't there an auto-detect monitor feature buried in the Catalyst Control Centre, could be set to manual?

Let me know the result of this please.
