For those that have switched from the 290 to 970 what's your honest opinion? Was it worthwhile? Is there anything you regret and would you still make the same decision if you could go back to your previous card?

The reason I ask is there seem to be plenty of people asking the same questions and would be nice to get some feedback in one thread so people can make an informed decision from those that have already made the switch.

I have a friend who switched from an MSI 290 to a Giga 970 G1, now he has a 290X vapor-X.
Ha told me the 970 OCd like hell (like some 1540 on the GPU), and had FPS numbers higher than the radeon, but in some game like BF4 he had strange stutters.
Long story short, he told me the 970 is a very fast card, but the 290/X feels like it has more pure grunt. I've seen some tests and the minimum fps on a 970 is usually lower than the 290 (or the 780/Ti), so it makes sense.

I moved from a 1250Mhz R290 and while it was faster by a hair then my current 970 it was wasted as you couldn't use all that spare power for thing like down sampling.

I play with V-sync on at 60fps so my GPU's are gernally not maxed out.

It's nice with my 970 to be able to render at higher resolutions and take advantage of the spare power.
