Ok so Today i'll be receiving a Palit nVidia Gefore GTX670 2Gb Jetstream

I currently own a Asus Radeon HD6970 2Gb and my Pc is Overclocked

I'm wondering if i should Clear my Oc before installing the new Card and also what is the best way to uninstall AMD Catalyst without leaving any Traces in Registry as i've heard switching from AMD To nVidia can cause system crashes and the nVidia Card may not perform as well as it can

I'm really trying to Avoid a fresh install of Os

I've not owned a nVidia Desktop Card since my first Gaming Pc which had a GTX 260 bk in 2008/2009

Thanks in Advance

I RMA'd a 7950 which was causing BSOD'd with dual screens and replaced it with a 670. I uninstalled the AMD drivers, ran ATIman and then installed the 670. All fine so far.

I've switched before and never really had a problem, I uninstalled the drivers, deleted the AMD program files and temp location, switched cards, installed the new drivers and away I went.

I do use CCleaner now and again to clean up the registry but never worried about specifically hunting down every trace of the old drivers but see how you get on, bench the card and if performance looks dodgy or you have stability issues then take it further.

As said above it should be a straight forward process.

With regards to reinstalling the operating system this is something I tend to do a least once every six months or so to get rid of any rubbish that builds up on my system.

Indeed, a good fresh install will clear any problems. Any time I chage GPU I always do a fresh windows 7 install as well as formatting the HD to start with...keeps it super tidy and clean

I hate reinstalling windows...It just sucks up so much time doing all the updates and bores the hell outta me.

Agreed, and with an SSD Windows always feels snappy.

To be honest I never felt 7 to be slow or unresponsive like some older OS, I only reinstalled 7 once since it was released which was when I bought a new CPU/M'board and an SSD and don't plan on doing again unless I have a problem.

I just uninstalled the AMD drivers before removing the cards and then installed the Nvidia drivers with the new card installed. I later did a full windows install and it did not fix or create any new issues so swapping drivers seemed to do as good a job.

Cheers for all your help, i uninstalled AMD Catalyst, reboot in Safe Mode and ran Driver Sweeper 3.2 got rid of all AMD Traces then rebooted again as normal n installed nVidia Drivers

All seems great so far, very impressive card, on OcUk Page it states Turbo clock is 1084mhz yet mine boosts to 1175mhz ?

I'm thinking about Overclocking but not sure as i've never Oc a nVidia Card before

Whats best Palit Thunder Master or MSI Afterburner ?

Good work. That OC started is the minimum it will boost to, so you have a nice card there.

Personally I use EVGA Precision X but Afterburner is good. I know nothing about Thunder Master sorry.

I reinstall windows every 2 month's!

It is is the only way that i know that keep's your pc completely virus free and means you always have the latest software/update's.

It usually take's about 1 hour ish to reinstall windows and get all my programs/software up and running and another 30 mins to make sure everything is tweaked/setting's are correct!

Wow you love to make your life difficult, I never reinstall windows unless the OS drive dies or some major registry problem has happened and I don't have a backup of the registry or an image of the drive i'm happy with.

You need to install a virus checker and learn how to keep windows tidy and optimised.

It would take me over 2 weeks to get back all the programs and settings I use normally on my desktop setups... Also maybe you should take an image of your OS install once you are happy with it that way you can save yourself the headache of reinstalling and restore a good image that you know has everything working and the settings you like. Even my gaming laptop took a good 5-7 days to get everything I want back on it and how I like it.

I will give you an example my last os XP pro, ran without any problems for over 5 years on my desktops (only reinstalled because I wanted windows 7 ultimate on them and updated the whole hardware) and I have an old Sony laptop must be coming to 10 years old and still on the xp pro install I setup from purchasing it and works fantastically well just by keeping the registry tidy, startup items to a minimum and junkware away from it.

That's just crazy, like the above poster, I have only reinstalled windows when I upgraded from XP to 7 and again when I added a SSD (I read horror stories and nuisances with copying the drive across). Even with the SSD, I was sat there staring at the download % from the windows updates...Restart download restart download restart downlo....you get the picture.

And then reinstalling games like BF3 arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :( Download was like 8 hours ish.

Started to make me shake thinking about it lol
