Hey guys,

So i bought a 7950 a few months ago and overall have been quite happy with it. But the support in Linux and Hackintosh has been lacking and so i've decided to jump ship to Nvidia.

Anyway, fast forward to now. I just ordered an MSI 680 GTX, but then after placing the order decided to check out benchmarks of the 770. To my surprise it's slightly faster and latest gen. So i tried calling OCUK and their service is so good that my order shipped 10 mins after placing, so i was too late.

So my question. Will it really be worth switching it for a 770?

You might as well, as you can return the card under DSR without problems. FYI the GTX680 and GTX770 are identical (insofar as the actual GPU is identical) but the GTX770 uses later gen, faster memory chips (1750MHz vs 1500MHz) and has a slightly higher default clock speed.

Given the choice of the two right now I'd pick the GTX770 unless the GTX680 can be had for substantially less money.

given the price you've paid for a reference 680, yes, I would be returning it and getting something like the KFA EX OC 770 instead

Yeah that's the one i had in mind also.

Would it be cheeky of me to test out the 680? Or do OCUK not accept returns if they're opened? :D

No point messing about, send it straight back and bag a GTX 770. It is a bit of a non contest when it comes to performance, the GTX 770 is faster.

it is cheeky yes, however yes they would also still have to take the return if you notify them within 7 days (or 14 days according to their own terms and conditions which is nice of them)

if you just did it the once they probably wouldn't mind too much, but if you became a serial offender you might find they stop accepting orders from you :D :D

if you've got some space on your credit card, just order the 770 now and send the 680 back as soon as it arrives, will all sort itself out in the wash before you need to pay for anything
