I originally had a sony nwhd1 which could store 20 gig. My music collection is around 18.5gig. However I dropped the hd1 a few times and it broke.

Now I have a zen micro 5 gig, which only has 4 gig of selected music on it. Im considering swapping to a nano mainly for the size difference. I have disliked ipods for a long time but i just like the size of the nano.

Can anyone offer any pros or cons for either player?

micros can have faulty headphone jacks, ipod nanos dont support wma so youll need to re rip ay music you have in wma (converting will make it sound terrible)

my personal advice to you is buy another full soze player, you can buy a full size 20gb ipos for that, also stretch to an iaudio m5 maybe?

My mate had a nano. The sound quality is alright, no more than alright though. After he had it a month his screen cracked, but surely this faults fixed by now. It had the usual rubbish surface that scrathes badly and looked a year old within a few weeks of buying it, but thats on all ipods.

They seem pretty solid electronically wise, but looks wise they deterriate fast. For the price you may as well pay the extra and get the video or similar unless you do a lot of sports where a flash based player would be better.

Well my orig micro was bought from my sis for £30, had it replaced by creative with a new unit for free. The only thing tempting me about the nano is the physical size, the 20 gig players on the market are chunky. I'll be buying an agent 18 case for it to prevent any scratching or breaking

Yup, all iPods look a year old after one week.

Except this one it would seem. Taken a beating and still looks 100%, battery is still as good as when I bought it, and I use it every day or so. It's also never been anywhere near a case because I didn't see the point in spending £20 or so on one. Couldn't really be happier. I think a lot of the iPod issues are blown way out of proportion.

I dont understand why your always ofended by me stating the problems with the ipods. Every player has flaws, and the new ipod range have a big flaw that they scratch easily. This is a complaint off many on here and the two people i know that owned the video and the person i know that owned the nano, so trust me, its not a rare problem.

Yeah I take a huge dump on every single one of your posts mentioning the problem.

In other news, you made a sweeping generalisation saying all iPods scratched, and I countered it.

Id suggest getting something that can play more file types like ogg.

I used to be a Rio Karma whore and had all my music stored in OGG format. I really wouldn't recommend it, as it locks you in to buying players which play OGG in the future. Not to mention the fact that you have to convert the files to do anything useful with them. There are formats which are a lot more popular than OGG and sound the same to most people, like a nicely encoded MP3.
