Switching off NAT!

Attention all guru's!

I have a ZyXel Prestige 600 (660R-61C)

I need to switch off NAT as its causing my xbox 360 major problems (keep getting "Strict" in the xbox network settings) i cannot find a single option to switch off NAT completely.

Ive looked all over the net and been totally unsuccessful.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Do you realise that unless there is only 1 device on the network or your ISP will give you multiple IPs you need NAT. It sounds like a port forwarding problem.

No idea if it's the case with your particular router, but some routers won't let you switch NAT off. It's either on or it's on.

As said, unless you a) have a block of IPs from your ISP, b) can get the router to act as a bridge or c) can live with nothing but the router connected, you're stuck with NAT.

If you're playing a game and trying to connect out, you shouldn't have a problem with port forwarding - but if it's trying to open too many connections (game server browsers being a fine example), some routers will go nuts. The only alternative is swap the router for one with more RAM (or a more sensible method for handling connections).

Stupid question, but seeing as we are broaching this subject already... if my ISP supplied me with multiple IPs, how would I set my network up?

Besides disabling NAT, would the computers on the network get their IP from my ISP by DHCP or would I just set them up as static IPs?

Apologies in advance for asking such a newbie question, Tolien.

Neither. They'd get their IPs from the router.
How you set it up would depend on the router and how you wanted to do it.

In the X 360 menu its refering to the NAT side of things in the diagnostics screen as "strict", and as a result i rarely see other people online and cannot chat one to one with any of my buddies.

does anyone know the specific ports that need to be open for the xbox 360? or is it more than just opening certain ports?

Cant you just set your 360 to a static ip and then allow that IP to be set as DMZ in the router? I know I had to do that with my Xbox to stop it from being strict.

for an xbox 360 the ports that need to be opened are

TCP 3074
UDP 3074
UDP 88

i used to get a strict rating with resticted outgoing ports, no open ports would give me a moderate and the above open ports would give an "open" rating which will make it work the best. UPnP can do this for you on routers (my mates linksys one had trouble with the 360) but mine doesnt support it
