Switching to Intel, which is the best bang for buck cpu

Hey guys, I'm wanting to switch to Intel soon and should be getting some money in about 5 days and would like some opinions on which CPU to get as well as a good motherboard too.

Any suggestions?
Budget about £2-300.
Either for both or for just the CPU.

Asrock Z68 extreme4 mobo and a 2500k. Smidge over budget but seriously decent.

Thanks for the input guys, my mate still "preaches" that i should get the i7.
Could you guys give me some justification on getting i5 rather than i7?

Also, do you think that the IB 22nm die shrink that's due out soon going to be affordable?

Advantage over i7 is for hyper threading... Which u only use for video editing shizz ...

like above, i5 2500k is the cpu of choice.
