Switching to new h/w - same HDD..?

I now have my new bits 'n' pieces sitting here to upgrade my pc.
A8N-SLI SE Mobo
X800 GTO graphics
X2 Athlon cpu
+psu

I haven't changed the HDD, but now I'm thinking, before I upgrade, that Windows XP may throw a wobbler if I just put all the new bits in and start it up.... will it work if I do this? Or do I need a clean install of XP to upgrade to a dual core system?

Has anyone else done this who can warn me of the results I might expect?

IF your lucky it'll swap over ok but best to re-install XP to get rid of any oddity's with drivers etc.

It might work with a repair install or it may just work on its own if you are very lucky but like BigDom says a clean install is probably the best bet.

I've now backed up my important stuff/photos/mp3's/doc's/etc.. so I'll take a chance on just starting it up with the HDD as it is. But I don't expect any merry miracles... like working first-time!
