Is worth switching over to SB from an i7 system at no extra cost?

I can get £400 for my i7 930/Mobo/6GB ram/Cooler.

2600k
P8P67
4GB OCZ (sale stuff)
£424 total and well below £400 if i shop elsewhere.

Hey mate,

If it isn't going to cost you anything then go for it! :) 5Ghz should tempt you some more :)

I was thinking if i go for an

2500k
msi c45 mobo
4gb ddr3
£300

Would have some spare change aswell. But would that be a downgrade? as no hyperthreading, not that i use HT anyway but you know..

I went from i7 930 clocked to 3.8 to a 2600k and the 2600k is about as fast as the clocked i7 when its stock speed maybe little faster.

Now running the 2600k clocked to 4.5 for my 24/7 clocks and at that it leaves the old i7 behind and when i push to 5.2 for benchmarks the scores are very impressive

But i think it also will come down to what gfx card you run now if say you run a single card even a 580 a old i7 is plenty for that but if you run top flight sli or xfire then yes you will see a upgrade.

Those that say no its not worth it are still using old i7s and not compared like to like make no mistake Sandybridge is faster.

I kept my old i7 930 to go into another build so bought new cpu mobo ram and water block and the difference i got was still worth it so if you can swap for no cost your onto a winner.

I only ever use single card setups, at moment got a GTX 480.

2500k or 2600k? Like i said i dont use any apps that use HT and never will. Will a 2500k no ht be faster than an i7 930 + HT

Clock for clock the 2500k is faster than the i7 930 but i doubt you would see much difference tbh with just a single gtx 480 as even a stock 930 wouldnt bottleneck a single card.

I did the same as well, sold my old i7 920 kit as a bundle and the outlay wasn't bad at all for the i7 2600k stuff and had increased my ram to 8GB. I'd say it's worth it from personal experience, but I know others will disagree as it's too much hassle for minimal gain. Personally, I just like fiddling about with new tech :p

Dont P67 mobos have less features than an X58 board. You'll be losing PCIe slots, but I guess since you only run one GPU then it might not make a difference to you.

Well worth it imo as it's not costing really and you wont need anything else for a long time, my advice would be to put a little bit more dollar in for the motherboard and get a slightly better one. The MSI P67A-GD65 is a gem.
