SwitchResX Alternative

Hi,

I'm using a 29" display with my 2010 MBP and to get it to output 2560 x 1080 (21:9) I've had to use SwitchResX.

There's a 10 day free trial whereby it'll then cost $14 for a license. I don't mind paying but just wondered if anyone knows of a free alternative?

I don't need any extra functionality, just that resolution.

Can't you force resolutions by holding down alt on the mirroring/display icon?
