Swopping out CPU's

This may seem like a daft question, but i currently have a Core 2 E6600 and i am looking to upgrade to a quad core, my motherboard will allow this but i cant really be annoyed with reformatting again..
Is it possible to swop out CPU's without reinstalling XP?

Yep, don't need to worry about re-installling when the changing cpu, I only do this when a motherboard change is done.

Do check that your motherboard supports your new processor. There are models out there which will run 65nm quads (e.g. q6700) but not 45nm quads (e.g. q9550) even though both are the same socket.
