OK guys, ive been using Sygate Personnal firewall for some time now but all of a sudden it decides it wants to use at least 50% of the cpu even when its just runnin in the background... I havent changed any settings at all...

Should i reinstall it or does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

ps its Smc.exe thats using the cpu

Just to let you know that Sygate has been taken over by Norton! :( So i think you wont get anymore updates etc so i would change wirewall tbh, isn't worth the risk. I'm in a similar situation with my 2nd PC, still deciding what to use. Zone alarm seems to be the best bet.

:)

Great

Can anyone recommend anything then apart from the Norton or Zone alarm hogging garbage! :(

I had been using this for a couple of years now on various PC's , but a recent scan with well known spyware software informed me there was a keylogger attached to it .I reported this on another forum a few weeks back and a few others found it too .So , beware m8. I uninstalled sygate and am now using the free zone alarm. Just run some current spy/malware and see what shows up .
