Hopefully picking this up on Saturday morning from Bristol area. My locost build is progressing ridiculously slowly and I wanted something on the road before summer runs out. Only thing this needs is an engine, so providing I can source a crossflow I should be able to get it on the road pretty quickly and do a rolling restoration, and plan engine uprades etc.

Not sure what to do about the locost, would still love to finish it but with work commitments and young familly I just don't have the time I need to spend on it.

Thanks chap, I reckon it will be a blast driving this to work through the lanes early in the morning!

Current owner used it in a race series a few years ago and won quite a few trophies. Apparently the bodywork is a bit tatty etc. but nothing a bit of fettling won't fix. Not normaly a fan of stickered up cars but I quite like this.

Superb.

You're gonna have to source an engine pretty quickly - you know what the weather in this country is like - we've probably only two months of dry roads left this year!

Someone at work had a V8 stryker for a while. It used to kick my ass when we did autotests cos unlike my Cinq he could just turn it from stationary on the power :D

What price did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking. Im off to look at a 90 - 95% complete Robin Hood tonight which has been sitting in someones garage untouched for a number of years since they gave up on the project. He's wanting £500 ono for it which does sound very cheap for an almost finished car, that being said i've no idea if the engine will turn after having sat for so long or what state the rest of the car will be in (owner of the garage its currently in wants it cleared out so he has to sell or find somewhere else for it). Its an older Cortina based kit with a 1.6 Pinto, but for the price if it really is as near to completion as i've been lead to believe it may be a bit of a bargain. No doubt it will need SVA'd with may be a bit of a problem.

I paid £2k which is about right considering it's fully registered but not actually on the road. With an engine in and an MOT I could probably get closer to double that judging by current prices. I have already found a 1300 xflow localy as a fallback if I can't find a 1600 (cheap tax!). I'm not too worried about performance as the xflow won't be staying in there for too long. If I decide to get rid of the Locost project I'll stick my 20XE on throttle bodies in it, which should make a fairly manic machine ( ~600kg, 180bhp = 300bhp/ton).

Oddly enough I also have a Robin Hood in my driveway, it was in a disgusting state when I bought it for a few ££ as I was just using it as a donor for my Locost. If the one you are looking at is the same as mine it uses the entire Cortina front subframe which makes the front end look frankly awful. Also bear in mind if this is an old model it could be more difficult to get through SVA, though of course nothing's impossible. Take a few pics and post them up when you go and see it.

Grab a zetec for around £85 from a scrappy and give it some stick...

:D

Mind you if you want real powah you want the zx12r I got... soon to be turbo'd if the cypriots stop upping the money they want to pay me to own it...

So far been offered cyp£15k which is around £18k sterling

:D

I'll see if i can get some pictures when i go to see it. All i really know at the moment is that its been sitting for some time, is Cortina based with a 1.6 Pinto and is British Racing Green and Stainless Steel.

Would you pay £450 - £500 for a Cortina based Robin Hood if it was in salvagable condition and almost complete, or do you think that it may be more trouble than its worth especially as far as the SVA goes ?

If it has "proper" front suspension, i.e. double wishbone and has been built so far to a reasonable standard then it's definately worth the money as long as you are happy to put some time and effort into finishing it and SVAing it.

Rightly or wrongly RH's have a bit of a reputation for poor quality, but this mostly stems from their market position and the fact that a lot of people that bought the kits really didn't have the skills to assemble them properly. That said I have seen some very nicely built ones, and there is a very large and friendly community of builders who can help out with any problems: http://www.rhocar.org/news.php

I did think about it, but that involves extra work making engine mounts, buying inlet and exhaust manifolds, getting the webers jetted, sorting out an ignition solution etc. I may well put my (far superior :D) 20XE in to be honest as I already have a suitable bellhousing, but I want to get it on the road first.

Unlucky Dogbreath, as hard as crossflows are to find they are also hard to sell. I just sold my barely used 1760cc with forged pistons, rods, balanced and Kent 244 cam for next to nothing. Would have been well worth the drive up for the paltry amount I flogged it for :(

Edit, would have been like a rocket in that as well :D

Awesome car, a mate built one and hooned around in it before his brother stacked it. His had an 1100 engine which was either bored or stroked to about 1300cc. Gave about 90-100bhp, but was stupid good fun. With 100bhp, you're looking at about 150bhp/tonne, which is rivalling a basic spec Elise. You're sat so close to the ground, and especially in the Striker with no sidescreens - incredibly exposed. You could literally just reach out and touch the tarmac as you were bowling along at 100mph. Scary/fun stuff!

That is a bit of bad timing, would have gladly driven up to have a good look at the Anglia and the pulse jet scooter :D Apparently the 1600 xflows get snapped up by the Formula Ford guys, and 1300 xflows are used by the Locost race series. The guy I'm buying the Striker from reckoned that the Formula ford boys would even buy 1700's etc to sleeve them back down to 1600.
