Hi.
Is anyone here familer/expert with Symantec Backup Exec 10d?
We have it running on our servers, and upto now ive been of the mindset of 'it works, i wont bother with it'.:p.
Anyway, i'd like to set it so it backs up to a NAS we have, which has already been mapped. But i cant work out how to do it?

Ideas?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Ok if you want to back up to a NAS... set the NAS up as a network drive on the server with Bacup Exec installed... go to devices... right click on Backup-to-Disk-Folder and create a new Backup-To-Disk folder...

Rest should be simple... then...

You have to setup jobs in 'Job Setup'... create a new job..

Select your selections

Also edit the Schedule under Frequency (daily, Monthly blah blah)

In Destination... Device select the Backup-to-Disk-Folder that you have setup

Then click submit

Tryed that, it just says it cannot connect to the drive, when it quite clearly can.

working for me... are you logged on as someone that can access the NAS drive? Is this when you are trying to set up the Disk Folder??

The NAS drive is mapped as a network drive, its got a password on it, but as its mapped thats not an issue.
I try and set BackupExec to backup to that network drive, and it just gives me the same error over and over (like a monkey with a miniture cymbal...:p).

ahhh password on it... try doing it without the password... I have a plan... let me know if it works...

There is a password on it, but you dont have to enter it, as its now been mapped. So no passwords are needed.

Either way though, im not removing the password. Too much importent/confidential information on the NAS to leave it wide open.

Bump.
Making some progress.
It keeps failing on the test runs i do, saying:
Media CheckOnline media check : Insufficient online or nearline media is available to start job.Overwrite media check: There is no media online or nearline that can be overwritten or the job has been marked append/terminate.Media check status : Failed

Ideas?

Have you also created a media set for the backup to disk files ? If so is this what is selected in the job configuration ?

In the Job setup under 'Device and Media' theres a sections named 'Device' and one named 'Media Set'. Try setting both of these to the backup-to-disk folder and the BTD media set you've created

There is no such option in the program.

Ive tryed creating a new media set, called "NAS media set", and has the NAS job pointed at that for the media set, but still, the same problem?:(.

can you do some screenshots of the setup?

Stelly

How do you mean?

Im finding im getting the same error on our other network with the Veritas version of backup exec.
And now the one im trying to fix now, isnt actually doing any backups, even to tape!:confused::confused:
