im doing a bit of trouble shooting on a mates machine..

its getting frequent BSOD'S and restarts during boot up.

now weve tried a known good mother board, ram, gpu, hard drive and its currently got my PSU installed but still having the same issues.. the only thing we haven't changed is the cpu this will be getting done tomorrow when we pick up some thermal paste.

has anyone had a cpu cause this before?

stock clocks
the cpu at present is an fx 6350 which I had used previously with no problems
the psu was a corsair cx750 now has my be quiet 650 in it
mother board is a new asus not sure of model number as not in front of me.
gpu is my old hd 6900 series and weve also tried my 7950 in it same result

Could be degradation tried upping the cpu vcore a tad ? next thing I'd check is possible motherboard bios change / update.

hes bringing the machine down to mine tomorrow so yip will check bios version and im pretty sure its running default settings at the moment.
Ive got an fx6100 im going to try in it also so fingers crossed ill get to the bottom of it.

the 6350 ran fine before I upgraded to the 8350 and I never ran a serious OC on it.I ran it at 4.23Ghz up from the stock 3.9GHz on my sabertooth 990fx R2.0 I cant remember the board its on at the moment but it is a 990 chip set.

I did get random BSOD'S with the chip with my old board ( Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 ) but after I went to the sabertooth 990fx I never had a problem

BSOD code will give you an indication. I'm gonna hazard a guess at VRMs/overclock if it's an AMD board.

And did you do a clean OS install where relevant?

the bios was set to default and I checked it was running a stock clock. it was a new board he purchased so it was running default settings.

yes fresh install it gave him a BSOD during the first boot after the fresh install.
it will let us install windows but once installed it wont boot up into windows it either hangs or gives a BSOD
