Bought some spare parts and have an athlon 2000 here, looks new unmarked pins are fine but on power up no monitor signal despite different gfx cards tried.Tried another board same thing i presume cpu is gone.
I got 2 cpus free along with 2 socket 462 boards,9200 agp card,1 gig ram all working for 30 so i can`t complain, the athlon xp 3000 works fine.

I bought a dead XP 2500+ a couple of months ago and I got no signal on my monitor with it. The fan twitched for a split second and then silence.

It should still display the BIOS screen if the CPU is b0rked.

If the CPU is totally dead then it will not display anything at all -- the BIOS is still dependant on the CPU to execute its code (in order to put something into the video buffer for you to see.) Therefore unless the CPU can actually successfully execute the instructions in the BIOS you will not see anything.

Cheers,thought it was.
Managed to salvage another 2000 from old rig with same symptoms but it was the mobo that time so no worries.
