symptoms of a failing inductor?

Hi all, I have a samsung syncmaster 2032mw monitor.

When you turn it on it comes on for 1-2 seconds then switches off again. I took it apart, presuming capacitors would be to blame but they all seem fine.

The connections on an inductor coil however look a bit iffy. Wondered what the symptoms would be for this, or where else to look on the board for a fault.

I'm still a bit of a novice with circuit boards so may not understand anything too technical. There is a resistor/ transistor next to the inductor coil (can't remember which now as I'm not looking at the board) It has orange enamel coating on top that has a slight crack in it. This is the only other thing I'v noticed on the board.

Hope this all makes sense and thanks :)

See if you can still see an image on the screen when it goes blank.

Could be the backlight inverter?

Get up really close with a torch and see.

Then you will know if you need a new inverter or not, as normally they are the first to go.

See if you can pick up a power board second hand and do a straight replacement, it will be more expensive but saves messing about with soldering etc and you will then know for certain if it's a capacitor issue.
