synaptic - no touchpad option

I installed synaptic, both generic version and sony aquired for my parents laptop. This was to turn off the touchpad while typing, but the issue is under settings there's no touchpad option.

Any ideas?

usually one of the function keys will turn off the touchpad. obviously this will vary between manufacturers and it might not even apply to yours at all but it's worth a look.

Yeah looked into that, but it's for my mother so she'll find it hard to understand to turn it on and off again between typing
