I ahve a profile in Sync Back whcih starts backing up but always fails as it says Access is denied, file cannot be copied. Any ideas why and how to allow them to be copied?

I have had problems like this and it's due to file/folder permissions and/or UAC, though I'm not quite sure which. Are you using Vista?

I started to go through files and folders to change their permissions but found this didn't solve the problem. I noted that I recently went from UAC being completely off - to UAC in "silent mode". I switched it off completely, ran SyncBack again and it seemed to work absolutely fine again. I'm not sure what caused the problem since I only have one user account on my PC anyway.

If your backing up over the network, make sure the computer your backing up to still has the "shared" folder and that you add your username/pass to the permissions list (and change the setting so you can "modify" the folder).

There is no backking up going on over a network. Thanks for the help on that anyway. All I needed to do was to turn of UAC and the backup then worked correctly!

Are there any downsides to having UAC turned off?

Regards,
Neil

Not really sure, I leave it off now anyway (I don't for example use IE 7 anyway).

I only have one account on my PC. I've been told analogies of holes in the ground, but no examples were ever given I don't think.
