hi there,

I was wondering what kind of speeds I would sync at with these line stats if I got ADSL max with pipex upto 8mbit:

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 27.0 27.0
Attenuation (dB): 40.0 28.0
Output Power (dBm):11.9 16.8

thanks a lot for any help,
ghgh

You don't state what line speed you're currently on - with that it's possible to give a very rough estimate. It's impossible to say exactly what you'll get since every line is different, but what does the BT checker state?

currently only on a 512kbit line...the bt checker says my line can support a rate of 2mbit or above.

I called pipex yesterday and they said I can get rate attaptable 8mbit on ADSL max but it would sync at the max my actual line can support which I thought depended on the downstream attuation mainly?

cheers

Your attenuation is partly responsible but SNR is more important. Your attenuation is within limits for even fixed rate 2mbit and you've got a pretty high SNR. I think it's safe to say you'll easily get more than 2mbit.

My parents' line is at 3.5mbit with a 58db attenuation on MaxDSL and that had a 25-30 ish db SNR when it was on 512k so I'd also say you'd get more than 3.5mbit too. Everyone's line is different, but given your stats I would expect it to be possible. Either way, it'll be a nice jump from 512k.

I'd guess at high 3's sync, which would have you on a 3.5mbit profile. Should see 400KB/s downstream so hardly shabby :)
