Sync two folders over internet

What options are there for this? Would prefer if the files aren't uploaded to a 3rd party.

One machine will essentially act as a 'server' and will always be on. The other is a netbook which will get the updated files when it's connected to wifi.

Something that behaves in a similar way to Onedrive without the upload to 3rd party.

Needs to be fool proof

I'm sure there are probably more elegant methods but you can do it over FTP with the likes of WinSCP http://winscp.net/eng/docs/task_synchronize_full

OwnCloud is just like OneDrive/DropBox but you host everything yourself.
