Syncing calendar help

I need to sync a calendar on 2 computers and an Iphone and not really sure where to start.

Ive got MS Outlook at work but would prefer to keep it out of there in case I leave or something.

I downloaded Thunderbird and the calendar plugin but unsure on the best way to sync things? A quick search on the net seems to always return using google calendar? Is that the best way forward?

I use Sunbird stand alone which is also the Thunderbird calendar plugin and sync it with Google Calendar.

Works great between computers, able to view events and edit/add events anywhere. Don't know how well it'll work with an Iphone but can't see many reasons why not.

I use the google calendar plugin for sunbird which allows you to link the ical from google into the application which then streams your events when required for viewing (week by week for me). Whereas there is also google's own sync function which I found downloaded all events on opening which slowed the whole program down.
