Syncing my old Itunes library with a new Ipod?

Recently my Ipod has been....lets say playing up, mainly in relation to the software side of things, it won't let me update the firmware or "restore" it in an effort to fix the problem, I also always get an "Unknown error (-53)", I've tried a few fixes I've found around the web but none seem to work.

Anyway It's getting a bit knackered anyway and I'm slightly miffed that apple won't be adding Genius to the older Classics as well, so I'm considering buying a new one.

So, what can I expect when I plug a new in Ipod and try to sync it with my current library? Will it work as normal or should I back everything up and prepare for a meltdown?

You shouldn't have any problems with that that I'm aware of. It's the other way round that causes problems (i.e. a mix of songs from an old library with new library songs may not sync 100% as I found out the hard way).
