I'm eyeing up a move form windows 7 to windows 8. I have a nas and I use Microsoft Sync Toy to sync my folders on my desktop to my nas.

Would this still be the best way to keep folders in sync between W8 and a nas?

#What do other people use, or what could I do that's better.

Ideally I would like an active sync whereby files added to my desktop folders automatically sync across to my nas?

Any help welcome

ps Merry Christmas all :)

Do you want a sync or a backup? File History is pretty much the least intrusive thing ever and gives you a sort-of Time Machine experience in Windows 8.

I used to use robocopy before moving to Windows 8 and now also use File History to an external USB drive. I've found it fairly reliable in that I've not lost any files, but did have trouble with it taking excessive copies of files to start with - disabling home group seems to have resolved this.

I think a bit of both.

I want my video folder on my and to have the same content as the vid folder on my desktop and if possible stay in sync automatically.

My other devices around the house then connect to my nas and access that content. Thus having it available to share and also acting as a backup if that makes sense ?

I use Bittorrent Sync - http://www.bittorrent.com/sync

It's perfect for me, and syncs files between my desktop, laptop, NAS (NAS4Free box), phone (android) and tablet (android). It doesn't matter if one of these devices is turned off when files are uploaded - they auto sync whenever two or more devices are powered up...
