Synctoy going weird

I tried to do a backup of my dads PC to an external hard drive today like I have been doing for a while now. But when I try to preview what changes are to be made (Echo C: to F: in this case) it reports nothing is to be altered! Eventually in frustration I wiped the external and tried again but it's still doing it. Can anyone help me out please?

synctoy is for backing up files, not entire drives

use acronis true image for full system backups

I was using synctoy because unlike with acronis you can easily browse the individual backed up files afterwards. It's the best scenario for what my dad wanted to achieve from the backups.

just use it to backup certain folders

like My Documents, it's seriously not designed for 1:1 drive backups

Acronis is actually very good at this - in the latest version you just double click the file backup tib file and it opens up all the files.

You could also use DriveImageXML which you can extract folders from the backup. Its free!
