Simple question. I currently have two 6TB drives in my Synology DS212j. I want to remove these drives temporarily and replace them with two 2TB drives so I can format them before selling. Will I be able to reinsert the original 6TB drives in the same order and continue as if nothing happened?

I'm guessing it would be fine, however, I'm not sure.

As far as I'm aware, the OS is on the drives itself. Therefore if you power down, remove all your current drives, then power up with the 2TBs, it'll either want initializing (if the drives have never been in a Synology) using find.synology.com and installing the DSM, or it'll boot up as it used to be when the 2TBs were removed.

Hmmmmm, thanks for the response, however, I really do need an assurance that it will work as I want it too.
