Well I've had quite a few of my drives fail on me recently and I was all set to build up a Corsair 800D and fill it with 2TB drives etc.

Whilst considering this getting a proper NAS has always been in the back of my mind...it just doesn't make sense to have my storage tied up to my main machine (especially with a 360 and a laptop).

Anyway - I was tempted by this as it seems to be a decent investment however I had one question...

My current set-up consists of a gigabit router with 1 cable running through the wall to my machine. I was going to add a small gigabit switch on my side so I could connect my NAS and main machine to the router. Can anyone see any major problems with this?

No issue with it. Great NAS.

I've just bought one of these, using it with a D-Link DGS-1005D switch. Great NAS ;)

Not too sure on the 3TB drives, although I'm sure support can be added in future firmware updates, like they did not long ago for 2TB drives :D
