Synology DS211 + 2 Drives

As far as I know it is used for combining disks of different sizes. I just selected custom and then RAID1. It probably doesn't make much difference but I'm not sure about SHR rebuilding should I disk go down.

Waiting for Feb payday/bonus to buy the DS211j. thanks for the info. It has confirmed my choice. You can read review after review but until the average man on the street tries to use one you never really know.

Got a DS411j coming but got a few questions. To start im going to stick 2x 2TB drives in it that already have stuff on them. In the future I plan to add another 2 to make 8TB but how do i stand in regards to raid?

Is there any way of setting up raid1 now with stuff on the one drive without losing it? Then when I get another 2 drives is it possible to turn the raid1 array into say raid5 without losing any data?

Unless someone actually knows on here, I'd recommend asking on the Synology forum.

I'm almost certain you can do this.

Thought I'd post an update.

Still loving the DS211, does everything I need at the moment.
I've got the synology data replicator backing up my wife's laptop to her share on the NAS.
I've got the Surveillance Station capturing video from my Y-Cam IP Camera (need to buy a 2nd camera license to capture from my 2nd Y-Cam).
I've got my iTunes library in a share, accessed by my Sonos music system.

All in all, it does exactly what it's meant to do.

Next stop, add the "Transmission" BT client that someone has packaged on the synology forums.
