Can't connect to my DS212+ NAS (running DSM 5.1) when it is connected to my router (BT HomeHub 3.0).

Setup using Synology Assistant works well via direct LAN connection and goes for static IP address of 169.254.155.149.

When I connect to my router (BT HomeHub 3.0) I can find it connected to router (when looking at the Hub) or ping it.

Range on the router is 192.168.1.64 to 192.168.1.252 - is the issue that the IP address of the NAS is not detectable by the router? When I try to set NAS as something in this range then I can't connect on LAN so am a bit stumped ....

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

Set it to auto dhcp. (the synology)

Turn it off connect it to BT hub. (make sure it's a lan Port, not a wan port) turn it back on.

Wait a few mins, then try

169.254.155.149 is a link-local address that is assigned so that the Synology Assistant can be used on a direct connection for you to perform initial setup. You either need to set the Synology LAN port to DHCP (as stated above) or give it a static mapping that is outside of your DHCP scope and differs from your other devices.

Or, give the Synology a DHCP reservation via it's MAC address when it is configured to DHCP.

Ok thanks guys - I have now set it up as DHCP and the status shows as READY with Synology Assistant and I can connect to it with LAN. DSM 5.1 etc is installed and all the lights are green and everything through LAN is good.

Now it is connected to my router again (BT HomeHub 3.0) and again nothing ....

Might this be a router issue ....? Or any other ideas?

Should have said I have connected to the router and it shows nothing is connected directly.

I also tried the same with a static IP set up as I described above and same scenario ...

Ok guys - problem solved!!

BT HomeHub 3.0 was the issue. Just bought a Linksys AC 1200 for £39 and we are working like a dream:p!

Thanks for all your help.

I think on the HH3 if you attached a PC you had to run some software to get it to connect properly. The NAS could have been confusing it. I think there was an option in advanced to turn this off. I had to do it to my Dads HH3
