Hi people looking for some help with a new NAS that i have just purchased.....

Right the NAS is a Synology DS214 this is upstairs and connected to my main rig via a gigabit switch.

The switch is then connected to a home plug that connects to the rest of my network, now all the cables used to connect my main rig and the Synology are either cat5e or cat 6 and both my main rig and the NAS show that they are connected at full gigabit speed.
Now I have mapped a network Drive in windows Vista 64 so i can drag and drop my films on the NAS from my main rig all ok so far.
Now when I come to drag and drop the films on I get an approximate transfer rate of 348KB/sec.

Now I have tried to transfer this film from my SSD and from my WD green 3TB hard drive all in my main rig and get the same speed.
There is only one 4TB WD Red in the NAS but i cant see the read and write speeds of the drives slowing the transfer rate down.

I have tried another network switch on it and the same happens, I have tried different CAT 5E and CAT 6 cables.
So I’m at a bit of a loss now and wanted to know if anyone can help on this one please, I’m going to make sure all the drivers are up to date tonight (I think they are)

Only skim read this. Remove the power line adapters from the equation and see what speeds you get.

Update the synology to the latest version.

Check you've got sp2 for Vista and the latest network driver. Check with the network driver chipset website, not just your motherboard maker's website.

Vista had awful network speed issues when it was first released. New drivers and updates fixed it.

FYI, it's gigabit switch :)

Check AV / Firewall settings to as they slow mine down with the same setup. i have a similar setup with 2 x 3tb reds in the nas and it gets about 100MB/s +/- 10%

Many thanks I did as said and updated all the drivers and altered some of the subnet mask settings, disabled windows firewall and it's now running anywhere between 75MB/s and 100MB/s which I'm really happy with just need another hard drive for it now.:)

Out of interest you not using ESET are you ? Also maybe add the ip into the firewall options. I had a similar issue with access my router
