Hi,

Looking to move out my HDD's from main PC into a NAS - looking at this as wanted 4 bays and read good things on Synology.

It'll just be storing MKV's which my Intel NUC with XBMC will stream, will this be good enough?

Cheers,

One thing to note..

If you install a hard drive into a NAS, it will format it as EXT4, so you'll lose all data on each drive that is installed.

They need to be formatted as EXT4 for the NAS to use them.

I'd highly recommend buying Western Digital Red drives for the NAS. Matching drives.

Yea, going for some 4TB WD Red's and will then transfer existing data over :)

Also decided on the DS414 and will pay the extra ££

That's the one I've got :) Although I went for the 6tb Red, works out about £2-3 per TB more.

Sounds like you've got it all planned which is good.

I will add one point however - Disable Windows File Sync - if using your NAS daily for downloads/installing, sync can cause connection issues with the executable failing to actually run.

First thing I do in Windows is turn off things I don't use. Homegroups, sync, action centre etc..
