One for all the fellow Synology users; DSM 5.0 was released yesterday.

Should be able to update it from the DSM Update facility in the Control Panel, but it wasn't finding the update on mine so I did it manually by downloading the .pat file from the Synology website. You'll need to update any additional apps/packages you have installed afterwards too.

Haven't had a proper chance to play around with it yet, but it looks very modern and fresh and some of the changes I've found so far are great.

Ive been using the Beta version for a while now and love it, at first I thought it was a bit cartoony but soon grew to like the new look.
I found the update through control panel ...ohh its just rebooted :)

I still think its a bit cartoony! - like it was designed for an ipad or something :(

Well it was :) Touch screen support was one of the main points of DSM 5. Had a play around for awhile now and not seen too many changes mostly just a reskin but I think it looks better overall - some better UI controls too which is always welcome.

Wonder if they'll update Time Backup too, it looks outdated now :p

It has got better memory optimisation - even the beta used to use less memory than 4.x when carrying out certain tasks so it is a welcome bonus!

can't complain - at least they give us updates nice and fast unlike qnap!

One thing I've only just noticed (and this may have always been the case), is that my Synology NAS seems to allow my PS3 to play MKV video files. Still trying to figure out how, because I thought transcoding was limited to the DS214play only.
