I have read that on a NAS you should change it from DHCP to a Static IP, but I'm not sure how I would do this? is it a simple procedure.

My NAS should be with me soon but I'm unclear on how you would choose a different IP address. I have seen how you get into IP settings on DSM.

From Synology: Static IP: If you already have some fixed IP addresses, you can adopt this connection type for network interfaces.

I don't have any static IPs so unclear how I would get one.

If you simply want your NAS to stick to the same IP you may even be able to just set it as such on your router, basically fix what ever DHCP address it was given so it never gets released and reallocated to something else.
Yes that's all I need and sounds much easier
Mac Binding (or bind IP to MAC)

I know that. OP probably doesn't.
You are right I didn't know lol
