Pulling my hair out here.

Can connect to the NAS as a network share via Kodi on my Nvidia Shield but Plex will not work no matter what I do.

I've setup Plex on the NAS and I can access it via a web browser and can see my films within Plex itself. When trying to connect to the Plex Server via the Shield app it simply shows a red exclamation mark and refused to connect no matter what I do.

Worth noting that I've used Plex via my desktop PC for years without issue.

What do I need to do to get this to connect?

Thanks

Have you used Plex before on the Nvidia shield? If so clear the cache of the app, then fully delete it. Then download the Plex app (not the server version) and try again. Had a issue before where it was just trying to contact the old server constantly.

So it wont, Shield version of plex don't support NAS sharing correctly had this issue for ages.

Ended up installing Plex on my NAS (Item Atom) & it works great.

also had the above issue,

plex used to only support NFS but i believe it can use Samba but its far easier running Plex off the Synology

runs great on my DS1819

Finally got rid of my shield the other week because it stopped working properly as a Plex server. It’s the only reason I have kept it these last few years. I had it sat on top of my synology NAS in the office just doing Plex server duties.

Tried multiple factory resets etc. gave up in the end and sold it. Still got a decent price considering it was a launch model. Replaced it with a tiny IBM thinkcentrw mini PC (i5 with 16gb). Just a clean install of windows and running Plex server. Works a treat and cheap as chips.

why windows? linux would have been more stable?

Just in the office chance. I switched to Emby, which works way better than plex, looks nicer also.
Although you do play a premium to use apps on the phone it doesn’t charge you to play HDR like plex does.
Might be worth a look.
