As title

Everything had been working for ~2 years without issue.

Now all of a sudden we have an issue where Win7 machines can't browse the network share via computername

Run
\\synology
= access denied or asks for login prompt

\\192.168.1.10
= works fine and displays the shares

If we ping synology, it shows the correct IP

Seems like some sort of odd DNS issue

No changes have been made to computername/IP

Everything works perfectly on the XP machines.

Any suggestions?

Have you changed the credentials for the Synology recently? I've seen this before where the wrong credentials have been stored for a share. To rule this out, create a new user account on the PC, log in and see if it works by name.

If no joy with that:

Any change if you put the Synology in the hosts file on the Win 7 box?

What's providing your DNS (if anything)?

What do you get when you do an nslookup on the IP address?

Have you got more than one network interface on the Win 7 box - cabled and wifi for example?
