Hi guys

Ive spent ALL of yesterday on google and youtube so thought I would give it a go on here as someone will know Im sure.

So I have my Synology (216play), I have a sky fibre BB router, PIA VPN subscription.

I need to get my Synology behind my PIA VPN, any idea how?
Which ports does Synology download station use? (I want it to be connectable to my private tracker) which it isnt at the moment.

Thanks.

You will need to set your router to forward all requests to your synology, on my router i have set the dmz to the ip of my synology so i can access all the features of the device remotely, you might be able to find the exact ports on the synology forums,

Config OpenVPN on the NAS (free), i'd be interested to know how it copes at 80mbit with something like news downloads doing a PAR repair etc. I would like to think you'd get full line speed using OVPN (not PPTP), but based on personal experience I wouldn't expect it (i've run similar on a J1900 and 1037U, N270/330, e5300 etc.).

I have tried to use that guide but PIA dont seem to support it as their server address are just that and not IP addresses.

I think I should cancel my PIA and just use the onboard VPN provided by Synology, tho I dont know how that makes me anonymous on the internet, can anyone explain?

For what (I think) you're wanting to do i'd still suggest trying it on the NAS.

You can ping the server to get the ip address.

There's 2 things here, which you may be confusing. An incoming VPN connection to your synology, which allows you to remotely access your home network in a secure way.

And an outgoing VPN connection (eg. using PIA), which encrypts all of your internet access from your local network.

This!

You can configure PIA in your network config on the synology. Be aware that if the VPN fails you may leak your real IP on to trackers.
