Hi, I've been tinkering trying to get the Synology OpenVPN to work without success. Thought it would be a good idea as I'm going to be working from hotels a lot soon...

I have a BTHomehub 5 and a DS212. I can connect to the admin panel of the DS via the web, so it's visible across the net.

I've forwarded the necessary port (1194) on the HH and the Synology test says it's OK. Given rights to the relevant user accounts. Downloaded a zip file from the DS and placed the files in the relevant directory of the OpenVPN install (at least I think they are in the correct place as the latest version doesn't have folder that match the instructions..)

However trying to connect using the OpenVPN client from a laptop on my network I get "Unable to obtain session ID from www.myDSaddy.com:1194: XML-RPC: ConnectionRefusedError: 10061: No connection could be madebecause the target machine activley refused it". Also tried from my phone and get nowhere.

Any thoughts, ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I tried this once and couldn't get it to work properly. Instead I set my router up as a VPN client, works flawlessly. Obviously your router will need to support it, I use a TP-Link loaded with DD-WRT.
