Hi.
Im trying to sysprep a system ive just setup, that i want to duplicate to several workstations that are identical.
I want it so that when i ghost onto the new workstations, that it asks me for my administrator password, what i want to call the computer, and thats it.
But im having a few problems.
What settings do i need in SysMgr.exe to achieve the above?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Here's my sysprep.inf file, a touch edited for you.

The line ; AdminPassword="localadminpassword" is currently remarked out, which I assume will let you specify your own password at the time. If you use the same password on all the workstations, just remove "localadminpassword" and replace it with the password of your choice - keep the quotation marks in.

I've also remarked out the domain section, so you may want to change that if you're hooking up to a domain. I've got the DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore line in, as I've included a load of drivers. If this causes issues, just remark it out too. Note that the country and area codes are specific to us, so change them accordingly. :)

LOL, yeah, I messed up the link. Fixed now :)

I've no idea how to do it with the software. I don't know if you can. You get nothing like the power you do when making the .inf manually, so I've just done that from scratch.

Ive managed to do it myself, works quite well. :).
Only problem im having now is that now for some reason Ghost doesnt want to image right, it'll get a good way through then just stall! :(.

I've little experience of Ghost now. I find Acronis True Image much better in every aspect (especially now it has Universal Install - good for those stubborn PCs), so can't help you with that. :(

Are you ghosting to a network drive and what version of ghost are you using. If you're using the DOS version of ghost then you need to make sure that it has as much RAM free in DOS as possible.

Whatever is the latest version irrc.
As much free RAM in DOS?
RAM isnt allocated in the same in DOS as it is in Windows. Its not a multi-tasking OS. So whatever you having running, has almost all the CPU time and almost all the RAM to itself.
Plus, its on a set of brand new laptops. :p

The ghost error logs it creates says that the images are corrupt! :mad:
Theres naff all wrong with the images. :mad: :mad:

I think ive managed to sort Ghost. 'Think' being the operative word.

The only problem now is that the mini-setup asks me for everything. I only want it asking for my admin password & computer name.

How do i go about doing that?

Here is my sysprep file that seems to work apart from the above:
Code:
;SetupMgrTag
[Unattended]
    InstallFilesPath=C:\sysprep\i386

[GuiUnattended]
    EncryptedAdminPassword=NO
    OEMSkipRegional=1
    TimeZone=85

[UserData]
    ProductKey=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
    FullName="XXXXXXXXXX"
    OrgName="XXXXXXXXXX"

[Display]
    BitsPerPel=32
    Xresolution=1280
    YResolution=800
    Vrefresh=60

[RegionalSettings]
    LanguageGroup=1

[SetupMgr]
    DistFolder=C:\sysprep\i386
    DistShare=windist

[Identification]
    JoinDomain=XXXXXX
    DomainAdmin=administrator
    DomainAdminPassword=XXXXXXXX

[Networking]
    InstallDefaultComponents=Yes
Note that wherever theres an 'X' above, there is actually proper data.
:)

make a sysprep file and select fully automated in the options, then leave computer name and admin password blank. It should prompt you for all except those, when syspreping did you tick "use mini setup" on the options :)

I selected use mini setup yes.

So i set the setup manager to do a full automated, then do a sys-prep without the mini setup?

##EDIT##
The setup manager doesnt allow me to not have a computer name in fully automated!?

no add one in the setup but afterward, delete it from the answer file, then it should prompt you :)
I did that, but when i syspreped, it errored and gave me some error about 'incomplete setup, run again'.
:confused:

Ah......did you leave the = sign intact?

so compname=
not compname
Yes.

So if i just modify yours so that it lists our information rarther than yours it should work?

Thanks btw. :).

##EDIT##
Im not sure on a few of the things in yours, what would i need to modify in mine to make it do what i want? The driver thing that you mentioned would be handy to do as well. Adds more compatibility. :).

that should do it, its a standard one with the entries left out, give it a whirl :)

I might give that a try, aparentely the errors im getting are due to the WMP11 addition to the image. If its installed prior to imaging, it errors, but after its fine.
So im gonna give it a few more trys tomorrow without WMP11 and see how it goes.
I'll report back. :).
