I have never used it but want to prep a machine that will be used as a virtual machine template for Server 2003

I have installed all updates and software, then browsed to the deploy.cab and extracted the files to a folder. When I run sysprep do I select 'Factory' (configure install as configured in winbom.ini) or 'Reseal' (prepare the computer for the end user)

I take it that all sys rep does is allow new SIDs? I was expecting a mini menu with machine name or something

Computers running Windows operating systems use a Security ID (SID) to uniquely identify themselves. When cloning a Windows VM, it is important to take steps to ensure the uniqueness of these Security IDs. Cloning an installation without taking the recommended system preparation steps can lead to duplicate SIDs and other problems. Because the SID identifies the computer or domain as well as the user, it is critical that it is unique

Thanks

Reseal will allow you to go through the motions with regards to computer name/network settings/domain registration.

Yep, i tried re-seal. So would i run the Reseal then turn off the VM and convert it to a template at that stage?

Then when a new VM is created it will come up with Name, netowork settings each time?

Just giving it a try now, cheers

As I thought ( but didnt do ) first entering the OS key (and around those stages) the SID is setup along with machine name.

Thanks again
