Anyone know of a way of getting this to work because after having applied the tool (with IE7 installed) Windows ask's on the next boot up to reinstall windows, I assume the reason for this is because IE7 requires you to validate your copy of Windows.

So has anyone found a way around this?

No issues here. IE7 pre-installed on my image, then syspreped, and all it asks for is the serial number (we use a load of OEM licenses rather than a VLK). Of course it needs activating again afterwards, but then that's what you'd expect from a new install anyway.

Out of interest do your images also contain Media Player 11?

Im sure that it's IE that's causing the problem this end but it'll be interesting to know

Hmm then the only difference is that we're using a VLK rather than OEM, cant for the life of me think why that should cause a problem

Are you getting the error "The system is not fully installed" after you've resealed?

It's a known issue with Media Player 11 and pre-installing & certainly one I've experienced first-hand. Oficially Microsoft still don't support deploying WMP11 in a corporate environment  but they did release a hotfix with an updated version of Sysprep which supposedly fixes the issue...

BUT I managed to get hold of the hotfix and did a test install of my custom XP image (1.4Gb DVD - only 3 items on Windows Update after install, 2 of which are IE7 and WMP11 :D) & resealed with the new version of Sysprep with no change - still got the error on restart. Not a lot you can do at the moment I'm afraid except provide a link to install it manually once XP's been deployed :(

Yep that's the error message, thanks for the reply at least now i know what's causing it.

In fairness Media Player 11 isn't vital for our images im just a bit of a perfectionist  :D

I started out by following the guide at unattended.msfn.org then started dipping into the msfn forum for more tips.

The best advice I can give for starting is by creating a xp source folder on your hard disk & copy your xp cd to it then you can start integrating hotfixes into it - most recent Microsoft hotfixes feature a command line option to integrate into a source path (such as the aforementioned folder).

Of course there are shortcuts such as the RyanVM hotfix pack - http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ or nlite - http://www.nliteos.com/
