Sysprep & Symantec Ghost Suite 2.5...

Here is the scenario:

We buy PCs from a supplier with XP installed, which is then configured by our technician to user account level, specifically with the functionality of the software we install in mind. Up to a certain level, every system is identical, and so we approached our supplier to include configuration to user account level.

They have now said that we should use Sysprep to rollback a configured system, and then create an image using Symantec Ghost Suite 2.5 (which they supplied), they can then use the image to install on every PC they supply.

Anyone know of an idiots guide that shows how to use Sysprep, and Ghost, to do this? I asked them for their own procedure for doing this, and they have not been very forthcoming....
 
What I use to do (older version of ghost mind you).

1. Setup PC exactly as I want, default user profile etc and installed apps.
2. Copy sysprep to c:\sysprep and setup (see this site: http://www.vernalex.com/guides/sysprep/)
3. Image, don't allow the computer to boot into windows. I use to image to external USB drive.

It's pretty easy to do, just ensure the PC doesn't boot into windows after it's been sysprep'd or you'll have to do it again.
 
I've been using the GSS product for a good number of years now, here's how I take an image.

1. Get reference machine setup how you want all your other machines to be when first imaged

2. Configure Ghost Solution Suite to run sysprep then gather image.

So pretty much identical to the above, except Ghost is doing it all including running sysprep for you.

So have they supplied the full solution suite or just a standalone ghost client? We run ghost servers at each site with the console installed to configure and run all of this stuff.

If it is the full server stuff you have then it's pretty easy to setup and get this going.
