Hello all,

This is my first gaming pc and my first self build so be gentle ;-).

Needs to be under £900, I really want the bitfenix prodigy (M or non-M, I went M to give me space to work in), and I decided on the 4670K (I may want to overclockers later on) and the GTX770. Things like RAM, PSU, fans, HDD/SSD I am relatively clueless on and I've probably forgotten to think of other things so help there would be good.

  • Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 WindForce 3x OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N770OC-2GD) £259.99
  • Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £164.99
  • Antec EA 650w '80 Plus Platinum' Power Supply £95.99
  • Asus Z87M-PLUS Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £94.99
  • BitFenix Prodigy M MATX Cube Case - Midnight Black £74.95
  • Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9B) £71.99
  • Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £67.99
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99
Total: £888.98

Thanks in advance

The Prodigy M is the same size as the ITX version, so you won't have any more space to work in. The internal layout is a little different which will probably make the build a little more fiddly, actually. If you want the same internals as the Prodigy ITX (that is, the horizontal motherboard) but in an mATX form factor have a look at the Aerocool Dead Silence.

You're overspending a little on the PSU and RAM. With a little work you can get a 290:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £329.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £169.99
1 x MSI Z87M Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £101.99
1 x BitFenix Prodigy M MATX Cube Case - Midnight Black £74.95
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £67.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99
Total : £915.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

You would have to buy an aftermarket heatsink when you want to try overclocking.

The Aerocool DS case:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Aero Cool Dead Silence Gaming Black Mini Tower Windowed £72.95
Total : £82.55 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Thanks for the advice. Didn't realise I was so close to an R9 290!

The Dead Silence looks quite good actually. I prefer the idea of a horizontal mobo for my first build.

Will the 550 PSU be big enough if I want to OC and add extra fans? All videos etc I've seen people are running 600+W PSUs.

Thanks again.

The Superflower is a good unit and will handle a single 290. If you want a bit of headroom (which can reduce noise and boost efficiency as the PSU won't be working so hard) the 650w version is £12 more.

The weekly offers will change tomorrow. They aren't that good this week so it might be an idea to wait and see what comes up.
