Ok so to sum up.
My system:
EVGA 680i (Latest p24 bios)
C2D 6600
BFG 8800 GTX (3d Guru drivers)
Corsair XMS2 8500C5 (2x1gig)
Enermax Galaxy 850W
When playing games, and ONLY when playing games my system produces loud beeps intermittingly.
Here is the sound: http://media.putfile.com/Beeping
I assume this is the mobo or graphics card speaker warning of a problem. I replaced the 8800 GTX through RMA, everything was then fine for about a day when the beeping started again.
I ran stress tests under orthos, a lot of memtest cycles with no more beeps or errors. It would again only happen in game. The GPU temps remains <70 ingame. So it's not a temp issue, all other chip temps look fine.
I then noticed that the when the beep went off the status light on the back of the galaxy PSU flashes to red. Looking in the manual this tells me that the PSU fan is about to fail, it also states a loud buzzer will go off. I am hearing more of a beep than a buzz.
So I have an RMA ready for the PSU.
I then decided to take out 1 stick of the Ram, the system has now been stable for hours in game, with no beeping. As soon as I put the 2nd stick back in the beeping starts again.
I tried lowering the RAM voltage to the lowest (1.85V) as apposed to 2.2V, with no change, I also defaulted the timings to bios default.
I ran memtest on both sticks individually and together for around 3 hours each with no errors. I also tried swapping PCI-E power cables.
I can now safely assume that:
A: The PSU has to pump more power to a 2nd RAM stick and fails. Producing the speaker beep.
B: The PSU has to pump more power to a 2nd RAM stick, which draws power away from the GPU, causing it to set off a warning.
C: The mobo cant handle the extra stick and starts to beep.
D: I am running the mem timings/voltage too high (I keep these to the recommended on the memory sticker)
E: the system is overheating somehow, even tho temps read fine under load
Any suggestions would be very welcome as its such a ambiguous problem.
