So will be upgrading the heating system next year, currently its a regular boiler type, so Cold water tank in the loft etc.

After living in houses with combi boilers in the past never ever again, so any use system type boiler ?

(We like our power showers)

As long as you're happy going into the loft to occasionally re pressurising the boiler then it will be fine. Is the plumber happy running the gas pipe into the loft from it's current location, or is it already there?

You need to ensure the loft is boarded from access to boiler for reg compliance.

Also a decent combi in the loft suitable for large properties will give good water pressure throughout.

Can always look at shower water pumps etc to support these. This is the best way on any mavity type of installation if not installing proper electronic power showers that are cold water fed.

Depends where your current boiler is, property type and roof plus boiler vent access and how much work it entails to move and install. Some installers will require full scaffolding to support install of vents and any roof work.

Cost to move and install in loft can vary from a few hundred if access and piping is straightforward through to thousands, plus then boiler costs.

Loft is fully boarded on loft legs above 300mm of insulation (recently done). Gas is under the stairs, the current boiler is in the floor standing in kitchen with units all built around it (a utter pain to get to have to remove a cupboard) and GAS is only used for the boiler so that feed can just be removed/capped off (cooker is induction) so its just a matter of drilling through the wall and vertical pipe on the outside up into the loft space.

Already made the loft hatch bigger and added a decent loft ladder.

Current shower is electronic from the hot water tank and cold feed.

I put my new boiler in the loft a good few years back. I never thought about having to re-pressurise the system every now and then, can be a pain having to do so.
I know next time I will have it moved to a more convenient spot. All depends on the cost of having a whole new lot of plumbing done.

Have you thought about that British Gas cover you can get. Might be a tad expensive but worth it in my opinion. My boiler has broken down three times in as many years and BG has always come out on the same day of ringing them. The last time was on a Sunday, fixed on the very same day. Can't ask for better than that.

No it's just old, and need replacing and tbh having the extra cupboard space and bathroom space would be helpfull.

i wouldn't want to live in a house without a combi boiler! What's wrong with them?

The issue with combi boilers is if you want to supply hot water simultaneously to multiple outlets ie two showers simultaneously which they are don't do a great job of. Having an un-vented hot water cylinder allows multiple outlets running simultaneously with a much lower impact on flow rate meaning two decent showers at the same time!

If you do make sure someone comes into to turn the taps on if you go in holiday in the cold weather. Happened to parents and house got flooded. Very expensive.

Not insulated correctly and/or no pipe/frost thermostat. A boiler in a loft would be treated as an unheated space, so needs full waterbylaws regulation pipe insulation and a frost stat and a pipe stat.

My boiler moved from the kitchen to the loft and the water consumption hasn’t changed to any noticeable amount (within a couple of £ per year).

I have a combi now and had a system boiler before.
