Recently my computer stops displaying a video signal when I turn it on. The computer seems toboot up fine but there is no video. When I open up the cd drive and put in a disc it seems to spin up and load it ok. I suspect the computer does reach the desktop although without a display I cannot be sure of this.

I have bought an internal speaker as my antic 300 does not come with one. When it Arrives I will plug it in and hopefully diagnose the problem from the beeps.

I have tried repositioning the ram in different slots and even running just 1 stick but no joy. I have tried reseating the gpu several times as well. I tried using a different monitor and different mi
Monitor and different monitor cable. I have Also tried a different 6 pin pci connector on my psu as well in case it was faulty.

Any ideas?

Well do you hear the windows jingle from your speakers if you suspect its getting to the desktop?

Is it possible to test the components in another pc?

Were you running overclocked, perhaps try a CMOS reset if you have not already done so.

None of my components are overclocked.

I don't have a spare pc to test components in.

I thought of going to pc world and buying the cheApest gpu they have to try and confirm whether it's my gpu which is faulty.

Had a thumb through the manual. It seems to reset the CMOS all you have to do is put a screwdriver on the pins for a few seconds to short them, so I'll give that a try!

There is no picture so I don't think booting into safe mode would work? Unless somehow getting into safe mode suddenly brings the picture up. I'll give it a try Anyway.

I don't think this mobi has onboard graphics as there is no VGA/dvi slot coming off the mobo. So if i removed my gpu I'd have nowhere to plug my monitor into.

It's a gigabyte ga p55 ud3

My internal speaker came today. Popped it in and it emits 1 long beep followed by 2 short ones. According to my mobo manual this means either monitor or graphics card failure. I know the monitor is fineso it must be the gpu.

What do you reckon guys? My gpu failed? Would it be worth a trip to pc world to pick up a £30 card to give it a try? As I said I tried reseating it so I think it's more than it just popped loose.

Edit; I forgot to mention that nine times out of ten the gpu,s fan seems to spin at 100%. again this would kndicate faulty gpu?

Just an update:

I bought an Ati 4350 tonight and gave it a try. It worked perfectly and the PC loaded first time. So looks like indeed my Ati 5770 is faulty, time to get browsing ocuk for a new one I think. :p
