Hi all,
I need help to confirm if all these parts selected are compatible please.

Upgrading from my trusty Q6600

AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8120@8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002

OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (AGT3-25SAT3-60G)

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

GTX 550ti x 2

I don't mean to be rude but you are way off the mark! Could you please post a budget and fill us in on what you do have.....PSU, OS, RAM (i think you'll find you need DDR3 now) oh and resolution of your screen can be helpful too.

Look forward to hearing your reply, you'll find lots of help here. I'm sure we can spec something to suit your needs :)

EDIT P.S

The mobo you have spec'd doesnt do dual carding properly you ideally want both PCI-Express lanes at the same speed. You don't want to be on that AMD socket as intels CPUs are far superior currently. The i5 2500K is also really obselete as ivybridge is now out and uses less power, has a better IGP and is roughly the same price. You also need ivybridge to fully utilise PCI-Express 3 slots.

Also the 550ti is garbage for the price, the older 460 is still better than it or a 6850. If you have £200ish to throw at GPUs you would be better off with a single 7850

Well I have around £450.00 budget, my current specs are

q6600 @3.2ghz
p5k-se mobo

Gaming at 1920 x 1080

Thanks for your help :)

Xpower 750 watt dual rail

I also have 1 x GTX 550ti

So you wanted to go SLI?

New PSU as yours is a cheap unit and I wouldn't trust it.

But a better idea is to sell your GTX550ti and use the money for a faster single GFX card.

You must be able to get £50-60 for your GFX card.

The above motherboard is for single GFX cards as it doesn't support SLI.

I'd aim for something like that bud. That's the overclockable ivybridge i5 CPU.

The mobo can dual card so you could add another GPU later (cheap 2nd hand one would maximise bang for buck). That's also a great offer on the 700W PSU so i would nab that.

I dont think 64GB is really big enough for OS and games, my shogun 2 install is over 20GB! So i added the 128GB, it also has the benefit of faster write speeds over the smaller SSD.

Hope this helps

Really?

Does it do SLI?

Does it only do Crossfire at the inferior 16X/4X?

Haha curse you stu! I couldn't edit the mistake in time lol I just realised i had the wrong one still in my basket from a previous spec.

Thanks for pointing it out. I know it's a lil more cash than yours but i think it's better to spend on the CPU than another GPU. Wouldn't you agree? Of course it's the OPs decision

A GTX550ti isnt very fast.

@OP, what games do you play?

True, i originally thought he was buying two of them, I wouldnt recommend one, however it is still a GPU better than the IGP

That PSU is good for 2 560ti's or 7850s so personally I would take the dual card mobo. It's more options he can either add another 550ti or as you suggest sell it to upgrade and still consider dual carding.

I would think the resolution of the screen is relevant too? At "low res" the 550ti might be having an easier time than we think.

I don't mean to confuse the OP just pointing out the options :)

But if he comes back and says he wants to play BF3 or another top title, then a GTX550ti, is just going to tank at 1920X1080

I was just interested to know and it helps build his post count if he answers questions...... at 100 posts he loses the P&P :)

Either Z77 mobo we spec'd has lucid MVP which will boost the 550ti's performance. I did say the card was "garbage" so im not going to argue over keeping it too much or SLI'ing it.

I would make do and have the better CPU,mobo and larger SSD. That 700W PSU is a bargain, it makes using 2 cards a reality which helps "justify" the better mobo. Your path so to speak is just as valid, I look forward to hearing the OPs thoughts and what he settles on :)

Dual channel RAM is what you will be after.
