I have seen people build computers with various techniques from mobo installation, testing, handling components, TIM application, cable management to what order they do things in.

I personally will always post test on the box with the anti static bag on it ( I know some people don't use a bag, or refuse to). then install mobo, Psu is already in, add HDDs/SSDs and Optical drive. I then usually cable manage (Horribly at that) and then I do a final power on test before closing the case.

When I apply TIM, I usually put just a pea sized blob in the middle of the heat spreader and let the pressure of the heatsink do the rest.

Admittedly I hardly use an antistatic band, as I just have a grounded post that I touch at intervals.

So what are your guy's habits, aliments and methodology?

Welcome to the forum by the way... :)

I like to assemble the Mobo CPU and Cooler on the Anti-static bag beforehand then put it in the case..

What i've found is the rest of the build procrss is determined by the case, and the way that goes together.

CPU, cooler and ram installed into the motherboard while it's resting on it's box. HDD's SSD's optical drives etc into the case. Mobo into case. Wire up the front panel. Wire up the data cables. Insert any cards. PSU in and wire up the power cables. Plug it in and turn it on :D

I've built around 20 PC's now, and every one has booted first time so I'm happy with my method :)

Openning everything and looking at how sexy it looks, put the power supply into the case first and run the cablles out the back. Put the mobo on the box put in the cpu in and then attach the cooler, screw the motherboard into the case attach the power cables and insert the ram then test if it posts. After that i insert the hard drives and install the graphics card, then fight the back side panel until it goes on as the cables usually prevent me from closing the back panel with any sort of ease. after that get through the horrible task of installing windows and yelling at it when it throws me errors

has worked so far all of my builds have powered up forst time although on all 3 ALL OF THEM i have put the hdd led connector in the wrong way and always have to go back and fix it

hehe, I used to have the same problem, battling that panel back into place is like hell. I remember one time having to use both my feet and hands to place it just right, after that I took cable management into more consideration :D
